Turin Brakes return to Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show

Turin Brakes will be guests on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show. The band have been guests on the show many times before, even appearing on both of Saturday Session compilation CDs (Dermot O’Leary Presents The Saturday Sessions and The Saturday Sessions – The Dermot O’Leary show) Dermot has released. Different this time is that Dermot O’Leary is away and the episode of the show will be hosted by none other than Al Murray.

Will the band preview some new material? Or will they promote their upcoming Optimist Tour by playing some oldies from that album? Will the full band pop in or will it be just Olly and Gale? We’ll find out on Saturday. The show starts at 3 pm and can be streamed online via the BBC Radio 2 website worldwide. As usual, I’ll do my best to provide an mp3 link afterwards.

Previously unreleased Pete Lawrie collaboration available

A new collaboration with Pete Lawrie has been made available online for free by the singer/songwriter.

Earlier this year, Pete Lawrie released his debut LP called A Little Brighter. The album featured Olly’s guest vocals on Paperthin. Since then Pete Lawrie has started work on a new record and to start with a completely new slate, he’s uploaded all of his home recordings online.

One of these so-called home recordings (the quality is actually rather good) is a song called It Was You In The Picture, which was previously unreleased. Listen to it below and then head over to Pete Lawrie’s blog to download the full 27-song-collection. Also included in the collection is Oh Lover, a previously released collaboration with our beloved band.

It Was You In The Picture is a slow-building song that really starts to kick in after 3 minutes:

When the tour kicks off, you’ll be able to buy the debut release from Turin Brakes on label. Yes, they have a own label, apparently. It’s called ‘The complete ATOMIC’. The Record Company that is. Because the covers ep that is the debut release on this label is called (breathe in):

Everybody Knows Every Day’s A Wicked Game

It features songs by Pearl Jam, Buddy Holly, Neil Young and Chris Isaak.

The release will be available on tour only. So get your copy at the merch stand when you can!

Turin Brakes tickets alert

Here’s a little heads up for people wanting to see the UK shows. Some of the venues have started to sell out. The Cabaret Voltaire show in Edinburgh is sold out completely and Milton Keynes is currently selling the last remaining tickets via their website.

So if you want to see the band live next month, in whatever venue, you really should buy tickets now as they appear to be going fast.

Exclusive iTunes b-side: ‘Heaven is a clear Horizon’

The iTunes single of Sea Change comes with an exclusive b-side, called Heaven Is a Clear Horizon.

There’s a preview on iTunes as well.

The single is already in out in several European countries, including The Netherlands.

Sea Change in (stunning) Stop Motion

The first of three Sea Change videos has been posted on MUZU.tv. It’s a stop motion (frame by frame) video of miniature soldiers fighting in what presumably is the second world war. Olly made at least one of the three videos (he mentioned on Twitter he was editing one), I don’t know whether it’s this one is. To accompany the video release, Muzu are giving away signed album copies if you join them and befriend Turin Brakes (and answer the video related question – so pay attention).

Dermot O’Leary round-up: Sea Change is first single

Turin Brakes joined the Dermot O’Leary show on BBC Radio 2 just now, for a 20 minute interview + session. Olly, Gale and Eddie played new song The Sea Change and announced it would be released as the first single from Outbursts on 22 February. There was some confusion considering when the album was released with Olly and Gale mentioning the different dates of 1 and 8 March, but early March is definitely happening. Besides touring the UK, a tour of ‘Europe’ is ‘hopefully’ happening and there are even talks about a new US tour. After talking about the recording of the album, Twitter, babies and touring the highlands, the whole thing ended with a nice rendition of Feeling Oblivion. The whole thing will be available here soon.

EMI Advent Calendar

Most EMI band mailinglist members received e-mails yesterday about the start of Thank EMI It’s Christmas.com. Everyday the label gives away prizes, including prizes by Turin Brakes. Though that probably means that they’ll just give away some copies of Bottled at Source, it’s still a nice contest I guess. And possibly the last bit of promotion EMI will do on Turin Brakes’ behalf, since the next album is released by a different label.
