Yesterday, Turin Brakes had a press day at the BBC Radio studios yesterday. This resulted in several radio interviews.

Gale is being interviewed for West Herts Drivetime with Danny Smith on Radio Verulam. Listen again (simply press play).

Turin Brakes return to Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show

Turin Brakes will be guests on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show. The band have been guests on the show many times before, even appearing on both of Saturday Session compilation CDs (Dermot O’Leary Presents The Saturday Sessions and The Saturday Sessions – The Dermot O’Leary show) Dermot has released. Different this time is that Dermot O’Leary is away and the episode of the show will be hosted by none other than Al Murray.

Will the band preview some new material? Or will they promote their upcoming Optimist Tour by playing some oldies from that album? Will the full band pop in or will it be just Olly and Gale? We’ll find out on Saturday. The show starts at 3 pm and can be streamed online via the BBC Radio 2 website worldwide. As usual, I’ll do my best to provide an mp3 link afterwards.

BBC Merseyside radio session (listen again)

Turin Brakes did a session and interview for BBC Merseyside. It all starts about 32 minutes in after you’ve hit play HERE. They talk about ten years of TB, co-writing and Tony Hoffer (producer of Ether Song) play Mirror and Rocket Song from Outbursts.

Rob the drummer said on Facebook:

“Hey Peeps, this is an acoustic session we did for the legendary Dave Monks when we wer in Liverpool last week. It was a lot of fun, even though he kept calling me ‘big guy’…… R.x”

BBC Radio Kent: possible live album in 2011? (+listen again)

Olly appeared on BBC Radio Kent yesterday evening to talk about the upcoming Canterbury Festival appearance on 28 October 2010. Besides that, the host described the band as “soft rock” and dated Ether Song in 2005. It wasn’t all bad though, as they also talked about the podcast and a possible live album release in 2011 (Olly says they’re definitely going to release something in the world of music next year).

So, here’s a lot of news… Turin Brakes are about to head off to the USA and Canada for some nice touring. For the list of dates, check here. New date in Ireland

In addition to the dates in Dublin and Belfast, there’s now also a date in Cork, on 19 June. Tickets are on sale here and various other outlets.

Two new blogs since I last reported, one to mark the end of the tour and one to mention that the front page wasn’t working. Check them on TurinBrakes.com.

Radio 5Live Appearance

Olly and Gale joined Radio 5Live on 4 May to discuss the new music releases of the week and also their single Rocket Song. There’s a lot of music banter. The music review bit is spread out over the last 20-25 minutes of the program. You can listen again here. Olly says about Rocket Song: “It’s about old love and that it’s ok.” Olly also says that he likes writing for anyone but that the prefers writing for Turin Brakes. Also, working for Take That and Dido is being discussed (“Clear up, get lettuce, Dido is coming!”).

Paper Heart live + Ether Song live from Roma

Gale has updated the player on the official site with a live version of Ether Song from Roma. It’s very nice. So go ahead, listen to it on the player on turinbrakes.com.

Charts and things

The voting thing is still possible. So far we’ve managed to get TB in the top 20 in Belgium… So let’s keep it going here. Meanwhile in The Netherlands, Turin Brakes have entered the top 10 of the Kink 40 at no. 10. That’s good!

Shaun Keaveny session coming up

BBC 6Music’s breakfast show (hosted by Shaun Keaveny) played host to Turin Brakes in September 2009 and they’re doing it again this week. Since Monday, single The Sea Change is ‘single of the week’ (which means it gets played everyday for the whole week). Even better though, on Friday the band will be in the studio and “they’ll be bringing their guitars’… So that’s something to look forward to, then!

The Sea Change is the debut single from Outbursts and will be released on 22 February 2010.

Best bits of BBC Bristol ‘Morning Glory’

“Because it’s Christmas” (well almost anyway), this week’s Morning Glory (the BBC Radio Bristol show) features the best bits of their Turin Brakes special from September. This includes two session songs (Painkiller and Underdog), a BBC Radio Bristol jingle (which wasn’t really good ) and plenty of interview footage. Listen on iPlayer here.

Don’t Tell The Bride / Brakes

Don’t Tell The Bride on BBC 3 last night featured a guy that popped the big question during a Turin Brakes gig, then trying to book the band for the wedding. Spoilers: the band couldn’t make it, but there’s quite some TB music in the episode, as well as conversations about trying to book the band. Nope, this ain’t the show for a surprise reveal at the end (Ah! They were able to make it after all!), but it does have a happy end. It’s a show about love and weddings, after all…

Anyway, congratulations to the happy couple!

BBC Shetland Sideways

The promised previews have yet to show up on YouTube, but you can now listen again to the BBC Shetland show here. Besides an interview talking about jobs before the record deal (Olly previewed Cartoon Network cartoons in Polish), O&G play some acoustic songs (Painkiller, Never Stops and possibly more). The program lasts an hour and TB get on after a minute or ten.
