Turin Brakes announce new Xerox EP, launch new site shop

So some big news today! Turin Brakes have confirmed the new Covers EP on their site, by giving it a title, Xerox, and updating their website with a webshop were said EP can be pre-ordered – along with some classic merch from over the years!

Getting ready to play the entire Optimist LP album . Are you getting ready to hear it live ? Come along and join in , we might not do it again for ten years ! Also, we’ll be taking a small EP on the road with us called XEROX featuring new song ” RESCUE SQUAD ” and a version of “CHIM CHIM CHER-EE” from Mary Poppins thats already been aired a few times on the Radio 2 ( it might also be on that audio player down there !)

In another blog post – finally – the band reveal more about the tour and the EP:

As I mentioned on the previous blog its the 10th Anniversary of The Optimist LP and we are heading out on tour to play the whole album from start to finish , in the style of the Optimist LP.

We have recorded a small EP that will accompany us on the tour – 3 covers and one brand new track . We’ve called it XEROX and I guess it will be the second release of our label The Complete Atomic .

Our friend Mr Dermot O Leary has been playing a song from it on the Radio 2 – a version of sinister classic Chim chim Cheree from Mary Poppins which we’ve put up on the Audio player for those of you that can’t wait till the tour .

We can’t wait for the tour – we plan to run through some other non Optimist tracks by the end of every night – it has been a fruitful 10 years !

And we’re just hatching the next 10 year plan for the future …

So you can now listen to Chim-Chim Cheree on the audio player at tb.com. As I said, the new shop is live right now. The listing for the EP reveals the following cover and tracklist:

1. Chim Chim Cheree (Mary Poppins cover – YouTube)
2. Rescue Squad (new original song)
3. Rikki don’t lose that number (Steely Dan cover – YouTube)
4. 74-74 (possibly a typo and it’s that song by The Connells?)

Pre-orders will be sent out when the EP is released next Monday (7 November). Also available in the music section are old EPs like The Red Moon EP and the previous cover ep and the previous studio albums. In the Merch section there’s a selection of merchandise from the past ten years for mostly reasonable prices.

Cover uncovered, Chim Chim Cher-ee

For the next cover ep, Turin Brakes have covered a classic song from the children’s film Mary Poppins. Chim Chim Cher-ee will be on the cover ep along with a new original Turin Brakes song and one or more other covers that haven’t been announced yet.

The song was premiered on Dermot O’Leary’s BBC Radio 2 show this afternoon. It can be listened to here, the song started 52 minutes into the show. It’s quite a moody affair with a nice punchy, unexpected middle bit. For those not familiar with the original, here it is:

Cover EP will contain new original song ‘Rescue Squad’

The cover ep that will be on sale via the website and at the November ‘Optimist’ tour gigs, will not just be a cover ep. It will have a new song, in fact, called ‘Rescue Squad’. The song was premiered in Sandwich last night and TB confirmed via Twitter that the song will be on the forthcoming EP: ‘we’ve stuck on an original too to spice things up ’. The rest of the tracklist (or a title) remains unknown for the time being.

If any footage of the new song performed live surfaces, we’ll surely post it here on Ether Site. So far though, no videos or audio on YouTube…

Any guesses what cover song this is?

After last year’s cover ep Everybody knows everyday’s a wicked black game, Turin Brakes have today gone in studio to record a new covers ep. It’s quite likely this will be available on The Optimist LP tour. Title and tracklist have yet to be confirmed, but perhaps recent covers like Lou Barlow and Elliot Smith ones at Resonance FM may be included?

More news when we have it.

The Covers EP is done

When the tour kicks off, you’ll be able to buy the debut release from Turin Brakes on label. Yes, they have a own label, apparently. It’s called ‘The complete ATOMIC’. The Record Company that is. Because the covers ep that is the debut release on this label is called (breathe in):

Everybody Knows Every Day’s A Wicked Game

It features songs by Pearl Jam, Buddy Holly, Neil Young and Chris Isaak.

The release will be available on tour only. So get your copy at the merch stand when you can!

A Turin Brakes cover EP

Turin Brakes are currently in the studio recording a tour only covers EP. Olly announced this via Twitter. It is currently unknown what songs will be on the EP. Previously recorded (and released) covers are: Angel of the Morning, What’s Next To The Moon, Breaking the Girl, Here Comes My Baby and Nessun Dorma. Unreleased covers include the Theme from Cheers (Where Everybody Knows Your Name), Wicked Game, Norwegian Wood and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere.

It seems unlikely any of the already released covers will be on this EP, however there’s no guarantee any of the unreleased ones will…
