2012 will be the third year in a row the boys head to the Isle of Man for some intimate gigs! Let’s hope the weather is good.

In other news, TB are playing some other private festival, called IASTIVAL. The event takes place from 9-11 September, with TB playing on the 10th. The event is invite-only though, so unless you are friends with IASb2b, it’s unlikely you’ll attend this thing.

Greenwich Summer Sessions is an open-air concert series launched in 2010. The event is set in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College on the River Thames in the centre of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Last year, over the four days of the event 8,000+ people attended the concerts.

This year the headliners for Friday night 29 July are the legendary Squeeze, who reformed in 2007. Supporting these legends will be our legends, Turin Brakes. This should prove to be a pretty good night that starts pretty early (doors 5.30 pm!). Tickets are on sale now. More info on the concert series here.

…… Hungry for Turin Brakes, that is!

Joking aside, there is no news on whether TB are playing the Saturday or Sunday but that’s okay (although TB are said to be playing Headstock festival as well that weekend HEADSTOCK IS NOT HAPPENING FOR TB). There are many ticket options, which you can view here.

Stendhal Syndrome is a psychosomatic disorder that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, confusion and sometimes hallucinations, when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly profound and a large amount of art is in the same place.

If that sounds appealing to you, then you should consider seeing Turin Brakes at Stendhal Festival, because our favourite band is gonna be playing there. The festival just confirmed Turin Brakes via their Twitter.  The festival takes place on 20 August 2011 in Ireland. Like Headstock (where TB are also playing), this is a non-profit organisation:

In keeping with our innate ethos Stendhal festival model is assured to make everyone involved in this first year a stakeholder in 3 years time. We (friends/ family/ local traders/ artists) are launching Stendhal Festival of Art as a not for profit vehicle until we reach a feasible point whereby we can restructure to a co-operative model. The Stendhal Co-op shall benefit all founders to include; 5 charities (MS Society, Parkinson’s, Foyle Hospice and two others), fund innovative regional arts programmes with colleges/ community groups/ Limavady Civic Centre and other artistic outlets annually and YOU.

Anyone attending the festival twice in the first three years (up to a limited amount) shall become a member of the co-operative and avail annually (for life) thereafter of a free ticket to Stendhal, affirming our commitment to all whom support the project from day one.

Cool, right? Anyway, the rest of the line-up will consist of indie bands, poetry, theatre and many other art forms. Check out the website for more details on the festival, including already confirmed acts.

More late Summer festival goodness from Turin Brakes. They will NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT be playing a Headstock, according even though Clash Music SAID they would (IT’S A LIE! IT’S A LIE!)… Still, it’s a nice non-profit festival:

A small village near Nottingham, Newstead was almost completely dependent on a nearby coal mine to provide employment.
Its closure in 1987 left the area in crisis. Since then, the community have banded together in an attempt to provide a future for the village of Newstead.
Amongst the measures they have tried is a not for profit music festival. A way to bring the community together, Headstock was set up last summer and enjoyed a tremendously successful first instalment.
Returning for another weekend of music, Headstock 2011 comes as the village enjoys a boost. BBC One are filming a documentary on the area, focussing on their efforts to give Newstead a future.
Taking place between September 9th – 11th, Headstock 2011 will be headlined by Echo & The Bunnymen.

Turin Brakes are NOT playing the festival, but The High Llamas (Rob’s awesome band BUT WITHOUT ROB!!) will be playing as well. Tickets are quite reasonably priced: early bird £50 adult full weekend, teen 12-17 £27, under 12s free.  More info HERE.

A very special Turin Brakes performance for Meadowlands 2011. Celebrating 10 years since the release of their Mercury nominated Optimist LP, the band will play this album from start to finish along with many other classics from their repertoire.“Turin Brakes inhabit a space which is entirely their own, fully-formed and brutally emotive… give them the devotion they deserve.” NME

There’s also a gig listed on 7 July at the same date and venue, but this one is not listed on the official venue site. Tickets, meanwhile, are on sale for the 8th if I’m correct so I’m going to assume this gig is on 8 July.  The 8 July show is the opening night of the Frome Music Festival. I personally would recommend Tom McRae to any living soul out there, so make sure you go if you can!
