Turin Brakes stand on stage at Stendhall Festival (Ireland)

Stendhal Syndrome is a psychosomatic disorder that causes rapid heartbeat, dizziness, confusion and sometimes hallucinations, when an individual is exposed to art, usually when the art is particularly profound and a large amount of art is in the same place.

If that sounds appealing to you, then you should consider seeing Turin Brakes at Stendhal Festival, because our favourite band is gonna be playing there. The festival just confirmed Turin Brakes via their Twitter. The festival takes place on 20 August 2011 in Ireland. Like Headstock (where TB are also playing), this is a non-profit organisation:

In keeping with our innate ethos Stendhal festival model is assured to make everyone involved in this first year a stakeholder in 3 years time. We (friends/ family/ local traders/ artists) are launching Stendhal Festival of Art as a not for profit vehicle until we reach a feasible point whereby we can restructure to a co-operative model. The Stendhal Co-op shall benefit all founders to include; 5 charities (MS Society, Parkinson’s, Foyle Hospice and two others), fund innovative regional arts programmes with colleges/ community groups/ Limavady Civic Centre and other artistic outlets annually and YOU.

Anyone attending the festival twice in the first three years (up to a limited amount) shall become a member of the co-operative and avail annually (for life) thereafter of a free ticket to Stendhal, affirming our commitment to all whom support the project from day one.

Cool, right? Anyway, the rest of the line-up will consist of indie bands, poetry, theatre and many other art forms. Check out the website for more details on the festival, including already confirmed acts.

New Gale blog

Gale has written a blog while the guys were playing shows in (Northern) Ireland. The “some kind of internet thingie” Gale writes about is a video session for State Magazine. Hopefully it will be available to watch soon enough.

So, here’s a lot of news… Turin Brakes are about to head off to the USA and Canada for some nice touring. For the list of dates, check here. If you know about any upcoming press appearances (radio stuff, interviews – get in touch). Also, live reviews, setlists and everything else is very much appreciated. New date in Ireland

In addition to the dates in Dublin and Belfast, there’s now also a date in Cork, on 19 June. Tickets are on sale here and various other outlets.

New blogs

Two new blogs since I last reported, one to mark the end of the tour and one to mention that the front page wasn’t working. Check them on TurinBrakes.com.

Radio 5Live Appearance

Olly and Gale joined Radio 5Live on 4 May to discuss the new music releases of the week and also their single Rocket Song. There’s a lot of music banter. The music review bit is spread out over the last 20-25 minutes of the program. You can listen again here. Olly says about Rocket Song: “It’s about old love and that it’s ok.” Olly also says that he likes writing for anyone but that the prefers writing for Turin Brakes. Also, working for Take That and Dido is being discussed (“Clear up, get lettuce, Dido is coming!”).

Paper Heart live + Ether Song live from Roma

Gale has updated the player on the official site with a live version of Ether Song from Roma. It’s very nice. So go ahead, listen to it on the player on turinbrakes.com.

Charts and things

The voting thing is still possible. So far we’ve managed to get TB in the top 20 in Belgium… So let’s keep it going here. Meanwhile in The Netherlands, Turin Brakes have entered the top 10 of the Kink 40 at no. 10. That’s good!

Belfast date added

Turin Brakes add another gig across that sea-thing that separates England, Wales and Scotland from Ireland and Northern Ireland. They’ve just added a date in Belfast: 17 June at The Black Box. Tickets are already on sale!

Turin Brakes head to Dublin in June (win tickets!)

Turin Brakes will play a gig at Whelans in Dublin on 18 June 2010. Tickets go on sale this Friday. At this point it is unclear whether this is a one-off gig or part of some kind of tour. You can win tickets here.

High Llamas at Analog Festival (Dublin)

If you miss Rob and like The High Llamas and Jonathan Coe (the writer), you might want to go to the Analog Festival in Dublin on 20 July. The High Llamas and Jonathan Coe will perform an exclusive performance piece there, called “Say Hi to the Rivers and the Mountains”. More info here. Tickets are cheap: for 10 euros you are in.
