Kate Walsh releases “Peppermint Radio”

Today sees the release of Peppermint Radio, a collection of covers by Kate Walsh. Included on the cd, as previously reported, is Kate’s interpretation of Feeling Oblivion, the opening track of the Turin Brakes debut album The Optimist LP.

Kate Walsh covers Turin Brakes on her new covers album Peppermint Radio, released 10 September 2010. The album consists of 11 covers of UK artists, including Turin Brakes, who have influenced her. The tracklist runs as follows:

In Feeling Oblivion there’s a lot more variety in instruments with a more violin heavy intro and it feels a lot more uplifting.

Olly and Gale feature on Kate’s last studio album, Light and Dark, and Kate has done support for Turin Brakes on several occasions, including last April on the Europe tour.

The wonderful Kate Walsh, who released my personal album of the year Light & Dark last year, is supporting Turin Brakes on the German dates of the EU Tour. No word yet on other support act / dates. Wait and see, eh…

Kate Walsh will be joined on stage tonight by Olly in the Tabernacle in London (Notting Hill). Tickets are still available, the gig starts at 7.30 pm. Olly will presumably sing Trying and Greatest Love.

Kate Walsh: Light & Dark album out now

Kate Walsh‘s latest album, Light and Dark, is finally available now. Since we found out in January 2009 that Olly and Gale worked with her on her new album, I (for one) have been awaiting this release with particular excitement. Especially, after the awesome Canterbury gigs, where Kate was support act and Olly joined her on stage for one of the collaborations, Greatest Love.

Anyway, the album is available on CD and high quality MP3 (check here for MP3 samples). Olly duets with Kate on vocals on Greatest Love and Trying, while Gale works his magic on the slide guitar on the latter track. The album is released without help from a big company, so please support Kate Walsh if you can! I hope to post a review as soon as my copy arrives.

Kate Walsh joins BBC Wales, Turin Brakes next Wednesday

Last night, Kate Walsh joined BBC Wales to play her single June Last Year and title track from her new album Light & Dark. She also talks about working with Olly and Gale on her new album (which is out on Monday). Stuart Cable (yes, THE Stuart Cable) mentions they will be on the show next Wednesday. The Turin Brakes bit starts around one hour and twenty minutes. The whole Kate Walsh thing (worth a listen) starts before that, around one hour and eight minutes.

Turin Brakes join the BBC Radio Wales Evening Show

Former Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable will be hosting the BBC Radio Wales Evening Show for two weeks starting this Monday. Turin Brakes will appear on the show as guests. There’ll also be a live session by Kate Walsh:

Guests lined up for his stint on the show include Joe Brown and Turin Brakes, with sessions by Kate Walsh and Sharon Corr.

It has yet to be announced when the band will be appearing on the show, but it looks like it’s “just” going to be an interview, not an actual session. But it should be good, right? You can listen via internet or via your good old-fashioned radio (if you are in Wales, that is). The shows will be available on the BBC iPlayer afterwards. More info here when it’s available.

‘Greatest Love’ clip online

Kate Walsh has uploaded clips of her new album on her official website, including Greatest Love, a duet with Olly. Unfortunately the clip cuts off just before Olly kicks in, but still… Also, there are sleeve notes on all the songs on the new album, in which she mentions working with Olly. In related news, I will soon publish a review here on the double a-side vinyl single (Light & Dark / Trying (feat. Olly).

The album Light & Dark is released on 31st of August, and features Turin Brakes on two songs (Trying & Greatest Love). It’s available for pre-order here.

Limited 7″ released with “Trying”

Kate Walsh has released a limited 7″ double A-side single featuring the title track from her new album Light & Dark, and more importantly Trying, featuring Olly Knights (singing) and Gale Paridjanian (slide guitar). You will also get the song Sitting Pretty. When ordering the 7″ you’ll also receive the MP3s (and if you prefer) the WMA files of the songs.
