Another London date, this time Post-Optimist tour and for charity! On 3 December, the guys will play a set at Vibe Bar, in London.

Football Action and Hanna’s Orphanage invite you to their charity Christmas party ‘VESTIVAL Unplugged’ at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane, London on Saturday 3rd December.With sets from Turin Brakes, James Walsh (Starsailor), Jersey Budd and DJ Seni and a ‘VESTIVE’ theme it promises to be a cracking night of music with all the proceeds going to both charities.

Turin Brakes play Tooting (London) fund raiser (22 July)

Turin Brakes are playing a set as part of a fund raiser for Tooting’s next theatre experience, apparently. The fund raiser takes place on 22nd July at Tooting Constitutional club and tickets are on sale NOW. Other artists performing are Garden City Project, Ned and the Perfect and the Young Runaways. This promises to be a rather intimate night and tickets might sell out quickly. Still, it’s a nice London gig, eh!

Turin Brakes support Squeeze at Greenwich Summer Sessions

Hurrah, FINALLY a London date!

Greenwich Summer Sessions is an open-air concert series launched in 2010. The event is set in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College on the River Thames in the centre of the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site. Last year, over the four days of the event 8,000+ people attended the concerts.

This year the headliners for Friday night 29 July are the legendary Squeeze, who reformed in 2007. Supporting these legends will be our legends, Turin Brakes. This should prove to be a pretty good night that starts pretty early (doors 5.30 pm!). Tickets are on sale now. More info on the concert series here.

Dermot O’Leary compilation released + East Wintergarden review

In other news: today sees the release of the new Dermot O’Leary Saturday Sessions cd. It features an acoustic version of The Sea Change, as well as 39 other covers and acoustic track recorded on Dermot’s radio show.

What another magical evening in the company of the TB boys in the form of Rob, a very hairy Eddie, Olly and Gale. The seating arrangement for the evening was ‘cabaret’ style which to you and me means round tables – small round tables seating 4 in fact. With appropriate mood lighting, it was an utterly lovely setting, something I’ve never experienced before, in which to see a band.

But of course, we’re not talking about any old band, we’re talking about my absolute favourite ensemble so knowing the gig was in a more intimate venue, i was super excited to say the least!

Opening with Rain City (which i heard during the sound check as i have a tendency to arrive early at gigs and could clearly hear the sweet sound of Olly’s voice from just outside) and closing with Underdog, we were treated with bloody awesome renditions of Dark on Fire and Long Distance as well as an energetic and romping exclusive ‘first time played live’ performance of ‘For the Fire’. Olly mentioned that it’s one of the bands favourites but may not be on everyone’s top 10 list – well, it certainly makes mine!!!! Loved it muchly! We heard many superb ‘classics’ from The Optimist LP including Feeling Oblivion, 72, The Road and Mind Over Money as well as plenty of stonking newbies which fit so perfectly in the set list by way of an acoustic Mirror, Radio Silence, Embryos with our Gale taking centre stage, followed by Apocolips and the encore began with what I maintain as probably my favourite TB track, Outbursts. I had goose bumps throughout the song and my feeble words just won’t do the performance justice..

How fortunate we are to be able to see the band play in so many different venues from Shepherds Bush to Cadogan Hall to a video shop to Drury Lane to East Wintergarden! Suffice it to say that I had a bloody wicked time and I can hardly wait until next time.. Oh, and to top it all off, I chatted to Olly after and finally, after all these years, got a picture with him! Happy days

East Wintergarden gig: sold out

The gig at East Wintergarden on the 29th of September, Acoustic After Hours with Turin Brakes, has now sold out. No further tickets are available. Sorry if you’ve missed the boat, but congratulations to the guys. Let’s hope it will be a memorable evening! Doors open at 7 pm, the gig starts at 7.45 pm.

Turin Brakes play East Winter Garden on 29th September

On the 29th of September, Turin Brakes play the rather posh East Winter Garden (pictured) in London.

The East Wintergarden in the heart of London’s Canary Wharf opened in October 2003 and is proving to be a favourite for corporate, private and charity events. Ceremonies can be hosted in either the main hall for up to 600 guests seated, the Gallery, suspended above the main floor, for up to 120, or the Promenade Room for up to 40 guests seated. The ceremony can then be followed by a reception, wedding breakfast and party. All within the contemporary surroundings of Canary Wharf.

I’m not sure what part of the Garden TB are playing but it starts at 7.45 pm (doors at 7 pm). Tickets can be obtained via Ticketweb.co.uk (or call 0844 847 2268) and cost 18 GBP (exclusive things that will probably make it cost more). It’s been a while since TB last played a proper London gig so this should be nice. Let’s all go! Also, there will be a support act and the whole night will probably be acoustic (since the event is called Acoustic After Hours with… Turin Brakes).

London Drury Lane review

I went to see the guys again last night with my wife and yet again they were outstanding. They were supported ably by Mike from Passenger (whom I was lucky enough to chat too for a few minutes).

The choir that accompanied the boys during the gig brought an extra deapth to some of the songs especially Future Boy. Again they played three tracks from the new album (just as they did in Canterbury) and the stand out song for me was Paper Heart. I am really looking forward to the new album in February and just hope they are going to do more gigs at the time to promote it.
