Previously unreleased Pete Lawrie collaboration available

A new collaboration with Pete Lawrie has been made available online for free by the singer/songwriter.

Earlier this year, Pete Lawrie released his debut LP called A Little Brighter. The album featured Olly’s guest vocals on Paperthin. Since then Pete Lawrie has started work on a new record and to start with a completely new slate, he’s uploaded all of his home recordings online.

One of these so-called home recordings (the quality is actually rather good) is a song called It Was You In The Picture, which was previously unreleased. Listen to it below and then head over to Pete Lawrie’s blog to download the full 27-song-collection. Also included in the collection is Oh Lover, a previously released collaboration with our beloved band.

It Was You In The Picture is a slow-building song that really starts to kick in after 3 minutes:

Pete Lawrie releases mix tape

Pete Lawrie, former TB support act, is gearing up towards his album release next month. To celebrate Easter / the release of his album (A Little Brighter) next month, Lawrie has made a mixtape called A Little Darker, which features our beloved band as well. Olly sings vocals on Oh Lover. The mixtape is available for free here. Olly’s vocals can be heard at the very beginning of the mix and from about 26 minutes in.

The album itself features Olly as well on a track called Paperthin. That album can be pre-ordered here.

Support acts for UK tour, Delta Maid and Pete Lawrie

UPDATE: TB just tweeted Pete Lawrie will be supporting on ALL dates, Delta Maid is the cherry on the cake for some dates.

Support acts have been announced for the UK dates… Turin Brakes will be accompanied by Pete Lawrie (who TB have worked with recently). So Birmingham, Bristol, Oxford, Manchester, York, Gateshead and Sheffield and ALL the other cities in the UK are getting Pete Lawrie.

The support for the London gig is Delta Maid, a bluesy female singer/songwriter from the Liverpool area. The final date, in Brighton, has BOTH acts listed as support.

Support acts for the other gigs have yet to be announced.

So, if my ears are right, you can now download two TB collaborations at Pete’s official site. Oh Lover definitely features Turin Brakes, but unless my ears deceive me, the Ooooohs on Paperthin are sung by Olly and some other folks as well. Check for yourself at Pete Lawrie.com. FINALLY, we see the fruits of the labour of Pete Lawrie and Turin Brakes. The song is called Oh Lover and is available as a free download if/when you register your email at www.petelawrie.com. It’s a demo version (according to the file name), but it’s nice quality and it sounds nice.

On Monday, another download will be available. I’m not sure whether it will replace this one.

BREAKING: Turin Brakes play Cardiff, Wales

Turin Brakes are playing a one-off show in the Buffalo Bar in Cardiff, Wales. Pete Lawrie writes on his Myspace that he will be supporting the band. Olly and Gale have worked with Pete Lawrie on his upcoming album (to be released when it is released). Pete is gathering momentum, his recent remix with Mercury Prize winner Speech Debelle is available on almost for free on many websites. I’ve been listening to his Myspace songs a lot. His music is a soulful combination of lovely production and his raw, but beautiful voice.

Tickets aren’t on sale yet. More info when we have it.

New Horses Mouth: 9 songs, and more collaborations

Olly wrote a new Horses Mouth for the official website. Main news is that the band has been recording in studio. There are already 9 songs recorded. Also, the band have been working with several other artists than Lisa Mitchel and Take That:

Andy Steele is recording an album with Jez Wing called Night Fishing LP. It is (partly) recorded at Turin Brakes HQ and according to Andy Steele’s website, Rob Allum, the drummer, is also part of it. Release date to be announced. Andy released an album called True Believers and the Guises of the Weasel in 2007.

Pete Lawrie has a Myspace and hasn’t released anything as yet (as far as I know).

Kate Walsh, known for her second album,Tims House, is hoping to release her second album (tba) this Spring.

Lisa Mitchell’s The Attic Space, as previously reported, is scheduled for an early March release. Her debut single, Neopolitan Dreams, was used in a washing powder commercial.

Take That’s The Circus, featuring the song Here by Olly & Gale, is already widely available (note that some international versions lack Here).
