Scottish dates to be added to Optimist Tour

Two Scottish dates will be added to The Optimist LP 10th Anniversary Tour. Besides the gigs announced yesterday, the boys will play Glasgow on 20 November 2011 and Edinburgh. Ahead of the official announcement on Friday, O2 has put up a link for priority tickets for the Glasgow gig.

Now I’m going to guess that the Edinburgh gig will be the day after (on the 21st). But we’ll know for sure on Friday 16 June. Stay tuned for the official announcement.

Turin Brakes set for Loopallu Festival

Turin Brakes will be playing the Loopallu Festival in Ullapool, Scotland on 17/18 September 2010.

With headliners still to be announced, we’re pleased in the meantime to unveil a long overdue visit from Scottish indie heroes, IDLEWILD.

Joining them and making their first ever festival appearance in the Highlands is TURIN BRAKES who are back on top form following the release of their 2010 critically acclaimed album ‘Outbursts’.

Also confirmed are BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards ‘Best Live Act’ (2010) nominee THE BAD SHEPHERDS featuring comedian Adrian Edmondson, best known for playing Vyvyan in The Young Ones and also Eddie in Bottom.

Local favourites and guaranteed to get the party started, THE VATERSAY BOYS make a welcome and much requested return.

Finally, bringing a touch of electronic/pop/folk are SILVER COLUMNS the new project of Johnny Lynch, better know as Pictish Trail and keyboard player in the Fence Collective.

Tickets cost 55 GBP (70 includes camping).

Turin Brakes announce three more UK shows: Birmingham, York, Glasgow

Three more shows have showed up on various ticket sites. TB.com is down at the moment, so these aren’t confirmed yet. But new shows in Birmingham, York and Glasgow are on sale now! Presumably, more dates will follow. Here’s the full list of dates we have now (bold = new additions):

09 Mar 2010: Glee Club, Birmingham (tickets)

Looks like there’s a UK tour coming up. Rumours of a Saturday gig in Glasgow are going ’round (but I couldn’t find info on that), but one date we DO know about is Friday 19 March 2010 at Cabaret Voltaire in Edinburgh. That probably means Turin Brakes play Glasgow the night after that (20 March). More info and dates when we have them, but this probably means the album is out some weeks before that (early March).

BBC Shetland Sideways

The promised previews have yet to show up on YouTube, but you can now listen again to the BBC Shetland show here. Besides an interview talking about jobs before the record deal (Olly previewed Cartoon Network cartoons in Polish), O&G play some acoustic songs (Painkiller, Never Stops and possibly more). The program lasts an hour and TB get on after a minute or ten.

No storm to big for the band that Never Stops (geddit? Never Stops? That’s a new song!). These past days Olly and Gale played three dates in the very north of the United Kingdom. Today Turin Brakes rounds up their short notice Highlands duo Tour with a gig in Aberdeen. Now here’s some tweets by the band on the trip to the North.

Scotland tour: Olly, Gale… and you

Turin Brakes are going on their first duo tour in YEARS. Olly and Gale will be visiting the highlands, starting this Friday, playing lovely shows in Stornoway, Inverness, Lerwick and Aberdeen. And you should REALLY go. It’s your one off chance to see Turin Brakes perform the way they started out, the way the songs were written. And we want to hear about it. So if you decide to go to any of these dates, please tell us all about it. These shows might very well be the last gigs the band plays before Album 5 is released. So upload photos, reviews, comments, bootlegs in The Ether’s Air, or send them to ethersite@gmail.com. But most of all, enjoy the shows!

Fancy a trip to Scotland? Turin Brakes do, apparently! The Scottish tour – that has yet to be confirmed – now has 4 dates:

02 Oct: Woodland Centre, Stornoway
03 Oct: Ironworks, Inverness
04 Oct: British Legion, Lerwick
05 Oct: Club Snafu, Aberdeen

Tickets are on sale and cost 10GBP for all dates so far, and available via Seetickets. These shows will be intimate duo or trio shows (probably trio). More when we have it.

It’s listen again Saturday!

People, it’s listen again Saturday. This morning Turin Brakes were on pre-recorded segments of BBC Bristol / Somerset (Morning Glory) and BBC Scotland (Janice Forsyth). The Morning Glory program lasts an hour and the first bit with Turin Brakes comes up after 5 minutes here. It features an extensive interview and acoustic versions of Never Stops, Painkiller, Fishing For A Dream and Underdog (Save Me) (although the iPlayer stops before Underdog is finished). The Janice Forsyth segment starts after an hour and a bit (after Kasabian’s Fire song) here. It features an acoustic version of Never Stops and the Take That song written by Olly and Gale, Here, at the end of the interview. Highlights (on both shows) are O&G talking about them marrying on the same day (but not to each other) and future album plans. So listen again. The shows are available for a week. The MP3s (coming soon) will be available longer.
