‘Sea Change’ shortlisted for Music Video Competition at Cameraimage

The shortlist for the Music Videos Competition at the 18th Plus Cameraimage, the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography, has just been announced – just over two weeks before the opening of the festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland on November 27th. The stop motion soldier video of Sea Change has been shortlisted for the competition. Check out the details and the full list of nominees after the break.

There are 15 nominated videos on the shortlist up for two awards – Best Cinematography and Best Music Video – in the Plus Cameraimage 2010 music video competition, which is partnered by Promo News and Video Static. The nominated videos are:

• Gorillaz feat. Mos Def and Bobby Womack – Stylo (DoP: Steve Chivers; dir. Jamie Hewlett, co-dir. Peter Candeland)

• UNKLE – Follow Me Down (DoP: Daniel Landin; dir. Warren du Preez, Nick Thornton Jones)

It’s the second year that the highly respected Plus Cameraimage has run a dedicated competition for music videos, and as with last year the videos nominated for the two music video awards will be presented at an official screening to the music video competition jury.

On the Plus Cameraimage music video competition jury are:
• Shawn Kim – cinematographer, worked on commercials, movies and music videos of such artists as: Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, The Editors, Beck, Muse, Katy Perry, Kings of Leon.
• David Knight – editor of Promo News, editorial director of UK Music Video Awards, co-founder and programmer of BUG
• Matthew Libatique – cinematographer Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, Black Swan, Phone Booth, The Number 23, Iron Man, and numerous music videos
• Wojciech Mann – music journalist, TV radio presenter, and influential Polish journalist
• Daniel Pearl – cinematographer on Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pathfinder, Friday the 13th, and DoP on music videos for U2, The Police, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Guns N’ Roses and The Rolling Stones among others
• Zbigniew Rybczyński – director, writer, cinematographer on animated and experimental films, (Soup, Tango, The Orchestra, Kafka), and on dozens of music videos (John Lennon’s “Imagine” among others)

Third ‘Sea Change’ video online

There was a prophecy that said: “The sea will change 3 times.” And thus, now there’s a third video for Sea Change, once again an animated event (like the first one). This time we get educated: from the origins of mankind up to the point where we involved into Clay Olly and Clay Gale.

If this video teaches us anything, it is that we should have paid attention in class instead of throwing clay at eachother. Oh, if only we had known!

‘Sea Change’: The Turin Brakes Highlands Tour version

After Harry Dwyers’ stop motion video, we can now watch the second of three videos for the first single of Outbursts. This one was filmed by Olly’s wife, Rachel, and edited together by Olly. It’s 4 minute account of the impromptu Highlands tour last Autumn. It’s on Vimeo.

Exclusive iTunes b-side: ‘Heaven is a clear Horizon’

The iTunes single of Sea Change comes with an exclusive b-side, called Heaven Is a Clear Horizon.

There’s a preview on iTunes as well.

The single is already in out in several European countries, including The Netherlands.

The Amazon single is just the single mp3 track that you can buy. Usually with Cooking Vinyl releases there’ll be an exclusive b-side available, which we’ll know about by Monday morning.

Dermot O’Leary premiered the new Turin Brakes single The Sea Change in his radio show last Saturday! You can listen to the show here, the song starts at 1 hours and 52 minutes. The Sea Change is the debut single from the new Turin Brakes Outbursts album.

‘Outbursts’ trailer released

Today, Turin Brakes posted the trailer (making of) for Outbursts on Vimeo. Besides some (very stylish) recording studio footage, it also features an interesting new font announcing the new album (1st March) and tour. Even more importantly, we can hear a preview of The Sea Change in the background. It features an instrumental bit from early on in the song and then goes straight on to what can only be describes as an epic, acoustic chorus / finale. It features a choir made up of Olly’s, fast percussion, strings and lots of more interesting sonic sounds. The single The Sea Change is released 22 February.

Mastering Turin Brakes 5th album (+ TRACKLIST)

Mastering of Turin Brakes 5th album, working title Outbursts, has begun in London today. The mastering is done by none other than Frank Arkwright, who mastered The Optimist LP! Olly and Gale posted the tracklist on Twitter. For those who can’t read the original image, here’s the tracklist (tracks with a * have been played live before):

Download acoustic Latitude Dermot O’Leary session

Earlier today, Turin Brakes recorded an interview and session for Dermot O’leary. While most acts just played one track, Olly, Gale and Ed got the chance to play two (The Sea Change and ‘old friend’ Fishing For A Dream).

In the interview the band talked about the upcoming Best Of, a new album (that is currently being mixed) and playing at the festival. Gale is about to become a father: Leia Grace will get a baby brother/sister soon, and Ed’s woman is also expecting a child any day now. In the beginning of the interview there appear to be some sound problems, but this is resolved after a minute.

On to the download then. I’ve decided to offer the songs as separate download MP3s. If you want the full thing (5 MP3s featuring the 10 minute interview and the two songs), you can download the full RAR-archive. You need to ‘unrar’ this file, by downloading a free Trial version of Winrar (or a different archive program). The files are hosted on Rapidshare. Click the Free button (if you don’t have an account) and wait for the countdown to finish. Then click on Download.
