New short film: Perpetual Motion

Remember those old Turin Brakes b-sides on the 72 and Mind Over Money singles? Weird instrumentals like Tunnel and Sunjets/Heavy 2? What would these soundscapes be like when you had video footage to accompany it?

Well, we may never know, but Rachel Knights (Olly’s wife) edited a short film of the band on tour through the USA last Summer. The footage (filmed by the band themselves) sees the band driving and relaxing: capturing the relaxed moments of the touring life. It features some lovely shots and moods. As a bonus, the band provided some music for the film, which is indeed similar to the old instrumentals the band used to do. As the commentary puts it:

A subtle trancy travelogue movie shot during Turin Brake’s recent USA tour for their “Outbursts” album,

Using a GH1 camera, tripod, slider and just two prime lenses the band capture all the in-between moments usually forgotten and left to drift down the road….

Soundtracked by the band and Edited together with Rachel of I Do Films please sit back and chillax for 25 minutes….

Check out the video below… It lasts for over 20 minutes, so have a drink and relax. Let the sound and video absorb you and take you away and drift to better days.

Turin Brakes set for Canterbury festival 2010 (and new blog)

According to the official Turin Brakes website, Turin Brakes will play a gig as part of the Canterbury Festival (which is held the last two weeks of October). Turin Brakes will be appearing on the 28th.

Last year Turin Brakes played two gigs at Folk In The Barn in Canterbury. This Canterbury Festival features a broad selection of events, from classical music to poetry, from film to music.

The full line up will be revealed in July on the official website of the festival.

Another gig happening in the USA, this time in Los Angeles. On Friday 14 May the band will play at The Echo in the city of Angels. Details and tickets here.

So… All in a day’s work… Lots of videos have popped up on the world wide web. Most of them are made by Jeanne at the London and Brighton gigs last weekend and can be found here.

In more official media updates: on turinbrakes.com you can find the second installment of the Podcast (in which tour members are introduced) as well as a live version of Mirror from the Manchester gig. So check it out.

And US fans may rejoice: a gig in Philadelphia has been added on Monday 24 May 2010. Tickets cost 15 dollars and the gig is taking place at Kungfu Necktie.

The first US + Canada dates!

Sunday 9 May 2010, Turin Brakes are apparently playing “Venue” in Vancouver. More info here, tickets on sale this Friday from the same page. Also, the first gig on US grounds: 25 May, Cambridge, MA at TT the Bears.

More dates when available, I would think that more dates between the 9th and 25th of May would pop up soon?

US release tomorrow, tour soon

So now that the UK tour is over, time to focus on the next step. 11 April the EU tour kicks off, which will visit The Netherlands, Germany and Italy. If you’ve got reviews, setlists, photos or videos which you want to share, please do! Send them to ethersite@gmail.com

Now, US news. The boys are currently trying to get the visas arranged that will allow them to tour in the USA. If things go right (which they should, even though Gale has been detained as a suspect terrorist in the past ), a US tour will kick off very, very soon. Turin Brakes are playing a show in Dublin in June, so it might be before mid June or after it… We’ll see though.

In the meantime, all you US people can buy the new record from tomorrow (Monday), so burst out if you can!

Right now I’m not sure whether the album is released with the same bonus track on iTunes US (Endless Freeze Frame), but tomorrow all will be revealed. The CD version is the same. The album is released through Cooking Vinyl USA.
