Last weekend Anvil Recordings CO, the record label that released Turin Brakes’ first release (The Door EP), celebrated its tenth birthday (in the year that the EP also hit the shops). Apparently, Olly and Gale did a DJ set last Saturday (oh! if only we had known!). Next Saturday is the 2nd of two parties. TB won’t be making an appearance, but our favourite Little Phil (keyboard player) Marten is. And not just as co-owner of the able, but he will also be performing with his band The Pangs. This band, conveniently, also features label co-owner and former TB manager Phil Passera.
Anvil Recording Co. are responsible for launching the careers of such folk and roots wonders as Turin Brakes, Fionn Regan and Prince Fatty, and this Brighton institution is turning ten years old! The first of two birthday celebrations is this weekend, Saturday 14th November at the Indo Bar in Whitechapel, London, and will feature special DJ sets from Turin Brakes, Lee Charles, The Murderer and many more! The second celebration is the following weekend, Saturday 21st of November at Hope in Brighton, and will showcase upcoming talent from Brighton and beyond… folksy girl duo The Wellingtons, Chester’s finest young flamenco/ska kids Fran & Josh (pictured), electro noise scamps Videodrome, and the evenings headliners, soul guitar band The Pangs. The night kicks off at 7pm, with DJ Lee Charles playing into the small hours careers from midnight onwards.
