Turin Brakes capture feeling of angst and melancholy in new single ‘World Like That’

After the tour announcement last month, we knew Turin Brakes would be back. But how and when? Today is the when, and painfully honest about our daily lives is the how.

Launch track World Like That harks back to The Sea Change lyrically: a social commentary yet also a personal reflection on the times we live in. And how hard they are to understand sometimes. Musically it’s a rich experience with some very nice guitar work going on. Tweet, share and like your opinions…

But first, listen to it here:

What ya gonna do when you turn your tap and nothing comes out?
Where you gonna go when the nights so black have you got it figured out?
Daddy’s gonna build you a bomb shelter
Anything to survive
We don’t wanna live in a world like that

Stumbling around an abandoned town dead air on the radio
Putting out fires for other fires to grow
Fire will steal a march on us
Time ain’t on our side
We don’t want to live in a world like that no

Used to get high as starlight, used to think it was gonna be alright

Everything’s upside down, everything’s inside out

Tumbling down, London Town
you better think twice, little child don’t you know revolutions ain’t nice?
Fire will steal a march on us, the flames are right outside
We don’t want to live in a world like that

Used to get high as starlight used to think it was gonna be alright

Everything’s upside down, everything’s inside out

I love this new track. It feels like a perfect late evening summer song, yet with surprisingly dark and wistfully pensive lyrics. Gale’s guitar work is subtle and refined but drives the song nicely, and the harmonies are lusciously TB.
Although we’ve only heard this and fellow new track Isolation (on the most recent tour), it feels as if they’ve never really been away.
Can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
