The most rocking song by Turin Brakes… Very heavy sound, but also very moving lyrics. Also released in an unplugged demo version, as a b-side for Pain Killer, the studio version appeared on Ether Song… Gale: Its the most hugely heavily rocking tune, it might surprise a few people that its us. It was the biggest buzz, in terms of a group of people together playing.
Olly: It was such a buzz, we turned it up. We have to listen to that song full blast. Those moments are good. We did a version of it that was just me on the guitar that was very calm and beautiful but in the end it had to be aggressive because of the content of it. It’s about someone committing suicide, and talking to them after they are gone about you could have done this, you could have done that. So that song couldn’t have been anything but anger and I’m really pleased it came out like that. Even though it might be a step too far for some Turin brakes fans, it’s not for us, its a step closer.
Relax, relax, relax…my little brother
All that you’d been through…a lifetime
So cling on, cling on, cling on to me my little brother
And we’ll laugh at the grand scheme of things…
Burned yourself down to the ground
You picked me out from a crowd
You’re losing it, I couldn’t tell
Till you hung yourself
You hurt yourself, you burned the bridge
Mole-hills turned to mountains in your way
I’ve been there, in solitude
but I could never save you that day
You got lost in the grand scheme of things
Burned yourself down to the ground
You picked me out from a crowd
You’re losing it, I couldn’t tell
Till you hung yourself
But you are keeping me breathing
Your voice is keeping me moving
There was a way out of this mess
Plenty of time, find a new place
Catch you some sunshine for you’re face
We were running on..empty
You killed yourself, but I was sleeping…
