Old song, released on the Fight or Flight EP. It has the same approach as The Boss (in being about everyday life), but it differs from this song because of its different mood and its lyrics focussing on the magic in mundane life, rather than the boredom of a job. It’s about the powerful forces of life and death that interweave the everyday things we do.

Two lights just blinking
One north and the other one south
You can see them from the stratosphere
I swear they are

In the city someone’s Dad just died
In another one someone looks up to find
A smiling cloud looking down as if it was alive

In the nine to five
In the tube driver’s eyes
Where the airplanes fly
I feel magic here

Well if I turned off this TV
And took a walk in the rain
Could the city streets teach me?
And not just fill me with fear again

I know I’m just indulging
I don’t deserve to feel this strange
So tonight I’m gonna feel alright with myself again

In the nine to five
In the tube driver’s eyes
Where the airplanes fly
I feel magic here
