Review – Gig: Canterbury, Saturday 16 May 2009.
My wife and I went to see the guys in Canterbury on Saturday and it was well worth the trip.
They were as always exceptional.
The three new songs they treated us to were excellent, two were very up tempo and one almost poppy, the last much slower and tugged on the old heart strings.
At one stage they turned off the PA and just played, it was phenomenal. It’s so great seeing them in such intimate gigs. We have seen them four times now and three of those gigs have been very small. I don’t want to do the big arenas again.
The actual set was great, all the classic songs loved by everyone and they got a standing ovation at the end.
They stayed around after the gig and chatted to fans and signed albums etc. Gale mentioned that EMI might be releasing a Greatest Hits album and that they might be touring to promote that.
The guys also mentioned that the new material will be released in the New Year.
We stayed in the hotel attached to the hall they played in and saw them again the next day, humble guys who play such great music that moves you.
It was a great gig and we couldn’t stop talking about it that night and the next day, Gales playing is second to none and Olly’s voice has such clarity that it cuts right through you. Ed on bass was a good laugh and everyone enjoyed the show.
As a side note Kate Walsh was superb and a lovely person too.
